We V-out the crack with a utility knife, remove any loose or bubbled tape and compound, and check whether the drywall behind it is still fastened to the framing. If a screw or nail has let go, we add fasteners.

Re-tape and float
Paper tape gets embedded in a bed of compound over the joint. Then two more coats, each feathered wider than the last — usually 10 to 14 inches total — so the transition is invisible and the repair has real strength.

Sand, texture, done
Sand smooth, match the existing texture, and leave it ready for paint. On ceilings with truss uplift we may recommend a flexible corner detail so the seasonal gap stops showing.
